Amp, Umpire and Prosthetist

Continued from Page 3

History Making Team Marshall, far right, captained the first amputee team ever to play against two-leggeds in a regularly scheduled soccer tournament. The team scored 8 goals.

Keep Moving

The key to a full life, says Marshall, is to keep moving.

"Losing a limb is not the end to life. You might think so or a little while, but you can adapt to anything.

"It's hard, sure. It takes work, of course. But you have to fight your way through it and win your life back."

"The leg, or the arm, is replaceable. But your life isn't. "

No Coddling

Marshall says family and friends need to avoid babying the new amp.

"Treat them no differently than before the limb loss," he said. "It might be hard for you, but it will be harder on them in the long run if you do everything form them - treating them as if they were crippled. They're not, they're only missing a limb."

"Obviously if they're trying to carry a heavy object, sure give them some help, that's just courtesy. But avoid stealing their lives in the name of sympathy."

Marshall evidently knows what he's talking about. going from a big league prospect to an amputee in a heartbeat, Dave Marshall could have given up. He didn't. He's touched and improved countless lives in both the adaptive and community sports worlds.

That's why he's this month's Activeamp of the Month.
