Amputee Soccer

At it's root, amputee soccer is raising up on a pair of crutches and kicking a ball.

But there's pure joy in doing so. For the new amp is gives back self confidence and self esteem faster than anything I've ever seen or heard about.

Myth and legend says amputee soccer was born 20 years ago in Seattle, Washington, USA.. Since then it's grown into a world class sport played its own continental championships and its own world cup.

It's played for both indoors and out, for recreation and for competition, 7 vs. 7 in the national/international game, and even 3 vs. 3 for local club matches.

It's a fair game, with no one allowed to use the residual limb to control or advance the ball, and teams can be gender mixed.

One landmark in the game came in June 1999 when 5 members of the Delaware Valley Tornado became the first amputee team ever to to play in head-to-head competition against able bodied teams in a regularly scheduled tournament.

If these well preserved "athletes" can play the game, anyone can.
